Temecula has a history of academic excellence.

Temecula offers a quality education system and network to draw from. The Temecula Valley Unified School District serves roughly 28,500 students over 148 square miles--from the San Diego County line in the south to Highway 79 and Winchester Road in the north and east to Vail Lake.

TVUSD offers:

  • Before and after school childcare program operates on 14 of TVUSD’s Elementary School campuses.
Twelve TVUSD schools have been recognized as California Distinguished Schools. Temecula Valley Unified School District leads the Inland Empire in student achievement, with a district Academic Performance Index of 836.  Temecula Valley USD's test scores rank 10th out of all of the school districts in Riverside, Orange and San Diego Counties.

TVUSD's Great Oak High School is the first campus in Southwest County to offer its students the rigorous International Baccalaureate (IB) academic program, a globally recognized set of courses for high-level, college-bound students.  Great Oak is among a handful of schools in Riverside County and about 70 campuses statewide with the program, which offers students the two-year IB diploma program. 


Temecula Partners in Education

The City of Temecula, Temecula Valley Chamber of Commerce, Workforce Development Agency, Riverside County Office of Education, Assistance League,  teachers, parents, local colleges/universities, business leaders and community members also contribute valued time and input to the Temecula Valley Unified School District.  Through the Temecula Partners in Education program, the committee works with the District to support and establish technical/vocational education programs and employment expos, and workshops on job search skills, application and interview preparation, first impressions, customer service, how to start your own business, and financial literacy – how to budget your money.  Two successful Youth Employment Expos took place in 2008 which targeted youth ages 16 – 22 who were seeking information on possible careers and future employment opportunities.

Higher Education

Colleges and University Enrollment

Temecula is near 20 public & private colleges with a total of 127,521 students in fall 2007. View a map and address information here.
  • 22,332 students (17.3%) at three top schools of science and engineering:  Cal Poly Pomona, Claremont’s Harvey Mudd College and Keck Graduate Institute of Applied Life Sciences. 
  • 53,842 students (42.2%) went to three comprehensive community colleges including nearby Mt. San Jacinto.
  • 17,187 (13.5%) undergraduates and graduate students at the University of California, Riverside, one of the nation’s premier biomedical, agricultural and environmental research institutions. 
  • 9,159 students (7.2%) attended Cal State San Marcos in nearby San Diego County.
  • 18,477 students (14.5%) went to several prestigious private liberal arts colleges within easy reach of Temecula.
  • 6,524 medical and dental students (5.1%) attended either Loma Linda University Medical Center, one of the nation’s top medical and dental schools, or the Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona or the ABA accredited La Verne School of Law.

 

These colleges and universities often serve as partners to business through special programs, course work, training and retraining programs. Local institutions offer classes in Temecula and will provide on-site instruction as well.
